Teachers are good role models?
I replied to a physical education teacher on NASPE talk who was talking about kids and their food choices. I told him that I agree that parents aren't showing their kids unhealthy ways of eating and that it is our job to teach the students the correct ways of eating and being physically active. He responded back saying how he is trying to teach his students healthy food choices, but the school is not helping him. He said he tried to get soda vending machines removed from the school, but other teachers are complaining. One teacher said that it would be learning oppurtunity for students to make healthy food choices. Is it just the physical educators who are supposed to show healthy behaviors or should all teachers work to help save kids lives. If a student is having a problem in subjects other than physical education class I would help the student with those subjects why shouldn't be the same for the other teachers. Teachers should work together instead of contradicting the other teachers' lessons. Anyways the physical education teacher brought up a good point by asking if schools had cigarette vending machines would it also be a good learning oppurtunity for the students to make healthy choices?

i totally agree with you. I feel that being a physical educator, you should have to go through fitness tests in order to become a physical educator. There might be some lawsuits in regards to discrimination, but it might be worth it. I feel that all physical educators must be able to do everything they expect their students to do. If the educator is over weight, the students are not going to feel as enthused to do some activities he wants them to do. It is also sending out a wring message to the students.
