AVS Practicum
Wednesday I went to the AVS program and helped someone by the name of Brian. He looked as though he had cerebral palsy and a mental disability. For the activity we went swimming. He didn't like the water touching his upper neck so he held on to me. I tried to get him to let go but when I did he whined. When I took him up to the shallow end he began to relax a little. It was a new experiene for me but even he wouldn't swim on his own I still had fun helping him to swim.

Video Problems
I had the hardest time with my video last week. I video taped my video with my moms camcorder just to find out that it would not upload to the computer. So I had to use my digital camera that takes pictures and takes videos and I had to tape the video off the television. I should have just used a camera from school. I hope that it uploads right this time.

Goal Ball
Today I played goal ball, which was a lot of fun. Goal ball is an adaptive game for the blind and visual impaired. The players must wear blind folds at all times. The objective is to roll the ball into the other teams goal. There are three people on each team: a center and two wingmen. The ball has a rattle in it so you can hear the ball coming, but it is still difficult. I think I would like to use this game when I teach.

My High Ropes Expierence
Last weekend I went on the high ropes course and had a lot of fun. I did all of the activites their that I could even though I'm afraid of heights. The was one of the biggest adrenaline rush that I have ever had. The best one was the zip line. When I get to teach my class I hope the school has a high ropes course and they get to have experience I had.

Arthritis
I think have early signs of arthritis. For the past three days my knees have been aching pretty bad. Arthritis is hereditary and my grandpa has it so there may be a good chance that I have it. The type of arthritis he has is called crippling arthritis. It's caused by twisting of the bones. My arthritis that I think I have is from not wearing any knee pads during wrestling season.

Teachers are good role models?
I replied to a physical education teacher on NASPE talk who was talking about kids and their food choices. I told him that I agree that parents aren't showing their kids unhealthy ways of eating and that it is our job to teach the students the correct ways of eating and being physically active. He responded back saying how he is trying to teach his students healthy food choices, but the school is not helping him. He said he tried to get soda vending machines removed from the school, but other teachers are complaining. One teacher said that it would be learning oppurtunity for students to make healthy food choices. Is it just the physical educators who are supposed to show healthy behaviors or should all teachers work to help save kids lives. If a student is having a problem in subjects other than physical education class I would help the student with those subjects why shouldn't be the same for the other teachers. Teachers should work together instead of contradicting the other teachers' lessons. Anyways the physical education teacher brought up a good point by asking if schools had cigarette vending machines would it also be a good learning oppurtunity for the students to make healthy choices?

Technology in PE
I would like to have some technology in my class. I think it would make the PE class more fun for the students. Technology like DDR and Wii. Hopefully the school that I work in will let try to get some grants for this stuff. I also think a climbing wall would be fun. The walls that move when you climb.

Dancing
In many PE classes dancing is incorporated and the students hate it. For my elementary we had to do square dancing and it was so boring. I think if gym teachers would make up new dances or even let the students make some up it would be much more fun for the students. Square dancing isn't the dance and if we would use more up beat music it might help to make it more fun also. I would like to use dance in my class but I would the students be more interactive and work together to create a dance of their own.

Sickness
It seems that everyone I know has come down with a cold in the past two weeks. I wonder why it seems to this time every year that people start getting colds. I think it is because this is the time of year when the temperature is just right to survive. I have already been sick twice and now I'm still trying to get over my second cold. My whole family back is sick too; even my girlfriend is sick.

Yoga
I think it would be a cool experience to try a yoga class and learn all the moves. I would like to use this in one of my lesson plans. It would help keep the class flexible so they will have less injuries playing sports. This would be fun and relaxing lesson plan to try. It would also help me to become more flexible.

Technology Problems
My computer is giving me problems now. It keeps freezing on me and I'm about fed up with it. I'm about ready to punt it out the window. Yesterday I was working on something and it froze up on me. I had to start the project all over again. My mom got Norton Anti-virus for her computer and I'm going to see if it will work on mine. Hopefully it works because I'm tired of taking eight hours just do one report.

Video's in P.E.
Showing video's during class on the proper technique of a certain skill is a great idea. During my high school wrestling career we used video's to show correct techniques and it really helped. We also used video's that had our matches on it to check out our progress and see what things we can improve on. If students had their own video tapes of them performing a skill, then they can watch themselves and make corrections as they go. And if a teacher isn't sure about a certain skill he could show a video on it that shows the proper technique.

Audacity Program
I downloaded the audacity program the other day and found out that it had a lot of cool effects. I was playing with it all day. I began mixing different kinds of music which is harder than you think. It also takes longer than you would think. The has this effect where you can reverse the songs and I was seeing if people could guess what the song was. If you haven't downloaded it yet you should give it a try.

Archery in P.E.
Archery is the most dangerous sport to teach. The teacher has to carefully watch all of the students at once. If someone makes one little mistake it could mean the loss of someone's life. That is why I don't think archery is a good sport to be teaching students. This type of activity should be taught by a hunter's safety course where there are more teachers to watch over the students. You don't see physical education classes teaching kids how to shoot guns so why should they be teaching kids how to shoot bow and arrows.

My video upload problem
I'm having some trouble with putting youtube videos on my myspace. For some reason I haven't figured it out yet. I entered the url where I'm suppose to but it still won't show up. I'm hoping my mom can help me out with this because I have no idea what I'm doing wrong or if it's even me at all. The I want to upload is one of me and my friends dancing. It's not the best video but I accidentally broke something in it and everybody looks at me and then keep dancing. That part makes me smile.

My reaccuring foot problem
I seem keep reinjuring my foot and I don't know how I'm doing it. I have been told by the school nurses that it is a pulled muscle in my foot, but you know how reliable they are. Since it's a reaccuring injury I think that it might be something more complicated than a pulled muscle. This injury always happens after I run and it just started last semester. When it starts it feels like I stepping on a rock, but if I keep running on it I eventually can't walk on it because it hurts so bad.

Tai Chi in Physical Education
Tai Chi is a relaxing exercise not only for the body, but also for the mind and spirit. I feel that it would be a good idea to introduce Tai Chi into physical education classes. It could help make a more stress free environment. It helps students focus their energy and put it to good use. It stretches the body while combining skills such as balance and agility. Thus Tai Chi could improve these skills for other sports and activities that the students need to have balance and agility, which is needed in about every sport.

How do CDs work?
It amazes me when I think about how we have come in technology. One advancement that was always impressive to me was cd's. It amazes me how they can fit so much information on such a small disc. Unlike the vinyal records, compact discs use a laser to read the disc. The laser reflects off the disc and is sent back to the eye which read different bumps in the disc. The cd player then converts the bumps into sound waves and out your speakers. In the field of music we came from vinyal to eight tracks to cassettes and then to compact discs; what will they think of next?

Diabetes
My mom is someone who I love and care about very much. So knowing that she has diabetes II and doesn't take care of it like she should makes me feel a little upset. I hate seeing her ruin her life. Being a physical education teacher will give me a chance to try and prevent diabetes II from effecting children and future parents. Teaching kids how important it is to eat healthy will hopefully help prevent diabetes II. This one medical condition that I would love to help fight and get rid of.
Wrestling in PE
I being a wrestler for twelve years have learnt many different values from the sport. One thing that I have learned is self discipline. This is something that I feel is important to have when concentrating on physical health. So I believe it would be a great idea to introduce wrestling in physical education classes to get kids to try out for the teams. It will help them develope self discipline for when they are doing physical activities.

Guitar Hero
The most fascinating technology that I have ever encountered would have to be the guitar hero games. I love to feel like I'm actually rocking out even though I can't play a real guitar very well. This new video game has many of my favorite songs. And to be able to rock out to these songs without actually knowing how to play the guitar just amazes me. My favorite songs to play are the songs that keep all of my fingers in motion. I feel like I have accomplished something when I beat a song that is like does keep my fingers active.
