Tai Chi in Physical Education

Tai Chi is a relaxing exercise not only for the body, but also for the mind and spirit. I feel that it would be a good idea to introduce Tai Chi into physical education classes. It could help make a more stress free environment. It helps students focus their energy and put it to good use. It stretches the body while combining skills such as balance and agility. Thus Tai Chi could improve these skills for other sports and activities that the students need to have balance and agility, which is needed in about every sport.

I personally loved doing Tai Chi. I was fortuante enough to have a physical education class that offered it. You're completely right about how it helps break down stress.

All of the chinese practices such as yoga, stress the importance of a strong mind assisting the body in locomotor movements. A strong mind is important in every day living as it is in sporting activities. I agree in the fact that mind strength should be stressed to students in the Phys Ed curriculum as physical activity is. A strong mind can help the body heal quicker and improve at a fast pace.

I fully agree that Tai Chi would be good in PE class. Like you said it is a stress reliever along with a great way to excercise. In elementary school if you tell students the are learning Tai Chi Im sure they would be excited not only to learn about what it is but would really enjoy learning it. Same goes for high school students. Another thing is Tai Chi is something anyone can do in their free time and can do as long as they can move their arms and legs.
